High school club swimmers around the country and the state converged on Atlanta and Athens over the past two weekends. Seven current Varsity Knights represented Dynamo, Swim Atlanta, and Spartans Aquatic Club as they took on the best of the best.
Speedo Junior Nationals in Atlanta
Katharine Ward, Madeline Singletary, and Sebastien Sergile took on the best the country has to offer in this annual event. Just about every swimmer entered will eventually swim in college. Some will compete at the Olympic Trials in 2020, and a small handful are candidates for future Olympians. An error in a single stroke, turn, or start can be the difference in a successful event or a devastating one.
The Senior was competing in her final Junior Nationals and put in her best performance yet. Katharine competed in the 200IM, 400IM, and the 200BR. She had career best times in the 400IM and the 200BR. She made finals in both of these events finishing 19th and 11th, respectively. Katharine helped Dynamo win the Girls Junior National Championship.
Competing in her first Junior Nationals, Madeline stormed out of the gate strong. She competed in the 400IM, 500FR, 200FR, and 1650FR. She made finals in the 400IM (8th) and 500FR (16th). Madeline was also a member of the Swim Atlanta 800FR relay that finished 4th. Madeline is currently ranked as the #7 overall girl’s recruit in the class of 2021 in the state of Georgia. She demonstrated that ranking is well earned to all of the coaches in attendance on one of the sport’s biggest stages.
No longer an up and comer, Sebastien used Junior Nationals to show he isn’t just one of the best distance swimmers in the country. Competing in four individual events and three relays, Sebastien helped lead Swim Atlanta’s men’s team to the Boys Junior National Championship. He competed in the 400IM, 500FR, 200FR, 200FL, 800FR Relay, 400FR Relay, and 200FR Relay. He finaled in the 500FR (20th), 200FL (13th) and was on the podium for the 800FR Relay (3rd) and 400FR Relay (1st).
