Multiple Teams · NCAA Signing Period Opens – 7 Knights Commit to Continue their Careers

On Wednesday, 7 Centennial Knights made a commitment to continue their athletic and academic careers at the next level. Competing in extra-curricular activities and balancing class work is a challenge for any high school student. Whether it be athletics, band, a club sport, or any of the fine arts, finding a way to be successful is challenging. These 7 athletes have not only found that balance, they have excelled and we are excited to watch these Knights move on to future success.

Livi Weidmann – Volleyball – Western Carolina University

Livi is a 4year varsity player, she has been playing Volleyball for 8 years. She has been named: 1st team all-Region 2 years in a row, she is the 2019 Excalibur Award winner for Volleyball, she her earned 1000+ kills this year and has been named ‘Player of the Game’ several times this season alone.

Ella Hancock – Lacrosse – Young Harris College

From high school coach Emily Perling – Ella Hancock is signing with Young Harris College. Ella is a true midfielder. From being one of the top draw control specialists in the state, to causing turnovers, and scoring goals; Ella is a force no matter where she is on the field.  In 2019 Ella was 1st on the team in draw controls, caused turnovers, and ground balls.  Leading the pack with 66 draw controls, 28 caused turnovers, and 35 ground balls. In addition to leading those categories, she racked up 21 goals and 16 assists.  In 2018 she was named the team’s Midfielder of the Year. In her career she has totaled 136 draw controls, 49 caused turnovers, 70 ground balls, 30 goals, and 44 assists. We are so excited for Ella to continue her lacrosse career in college, and looking forward to one more outstanding season in 2020!

Ella Hancock has played with me for the past 3 years.  She is fierce, dedicated and has a passion for the game.  She is a competitor and any coach would want a field full of Ella’s against any opponent. Very proud of her and her accomplishments!

Emily Cate Smith – Lacrosse – Longwood University 

Emily Cate Smith is signing with Longwood University. Since her freshman year, Emily Cate has been a critical part of our attack. She is a versatile attacker with the ability to create her own opportunities, but she excels even more in creating those opportunities for others.  Not only is she a powerhouse on attack, she is a skilled draw control specialist, who can use her height and strength to win the draw against top competitors.  In 2019 Emily Cate was 3rd on the team with 44 goals, 2nd on the team with 29 assists, had a 70% shooting accuracy, and tallied 17 draw controls. She was named Honorable Mention All-State in 2019.  In her career she has tallied 94 goals, 57 assists, and 51 draw controls. We are so excited for Emily Cate to continue her lacrosse career in college, and looking forward to one more outstanding season in 2020!

Callen Sweigart – Lacrosse – Young Harris College

Callen Sweigart is signing with Young Harris College.  Callen has been a linchpin in our defense these past two year.  She is constantly assigned to stop top players on opposing teams, and her ability to do so sets her apart from the rest.  Her footwork and body positioning allows her to cause many turnovers without even going for a check. In 2019 Callen was 2nd on the team with 14 caused turnovers and 3rd on the team with 21 ground balls.  In 2019 she was named to the Honorable Mention All-State team. In 2018 and 2019 she was honored as the team Defensive Player of the year.  In her career she has accumulated 23 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls. We are so excited for Callen to continue her lacrosse career in college, and looking forward to one more outstanding season in 2020!

Caroline Williams – Gymnastics – University of Nebraska 

Caroline is an extremely talented and decorated gymnast. She was a captain for the Centennial program and helped lead the team to victory in each of their tournaments last year. During her sophomore year Caroline helped the Knights qualify for the State Tournament for the first time in school history.

Will Haberstock – Baseball – University of North Alabama

William Haberstock is signing to play baseball at the University of North Alabama. William will be a 3-year varsity letterman for Centennial after the completion of this season. William has started in centerfield and on the mound pitching, for the past two years. William threw 25 innings as a Junior and had a 3.2 ERA. William plays travel baseball for Team Elite during his summer. William has been a great leader and example for our baseball program.  He continuously works hard in the classroom and also on the field. William has been very successful at Centennial and we looking forward to seeing what he does in the future.

Elena Jerkovic – Rowing – University of Tennessee

Elena began rowing summer before her junior year. Leading our Novice squad to a 52-1 record in the fall, her success landed her a spot in our program’s regionally ranked Varsity 8+ by the spring season. Elena then helped lead our Varsity squad to its best season in program history. Her performance was highlighted by our Varsity 8+ finishing with a 43-2 record and placing 2nd at the Regional Championship; which earned our team a bid to Nationals. If you know Elena then you know The University of Tennessee Lady Vols are gaining an incredible athlete and an even better person.
