Boys Varsity Football · Record Breaking Knights

On Friday, the Centennial Knights football team traveled to Cambridge High School and came away with a huge victory to move to 2-0 in region play. The 69-35 blowout placed the Knights at the top of the region heading into the second and final bye week of the season. Not only did the Knights win convincingly, but there were a handful of record-breaking performances on the night! 69 points are the most points ever scored in a Centennial High School football game and 104 are the most total points in any game played during the school’s 22-year history. The Knights were led in scoring by Cal Dickie who set the school record for touchdowns in a game with five while Max Brosmer also had a standout performance by throwing four touchdowns. There were even two touchdowns returned on kicks by Dee Chambers and Kevon Angry who have proven to be key additions to the Knights football team this year on defense and special teams. Their efforts were the first time Centennial has ever had two kick returns for scores in a single game.

The game started off evenly matched in the first quarter as the Bears and Knights were tied at 14, but in the second quarter, the Knights extended their lead to 35-14. Dickie scored twice in the final minute of the game to create separation between the two teams at the half. Cambridge came out and scored quickly in the second half, but Centennial answered immediately by scoring on the ensuing kickoff return by D’Amare Chambers to leave no doubt who would win the shootout. The Knights offense continues to be explosive and this is even after losing one of their best offensive weapons when Julian Nixon tore his ACL against Roswell. While this game highlighted many of the Knights skill positions, Coach Michael Perry was quick to recognize the offensive line and their performance: “Cal wouldn’t have had all those rushing yards without their play,” he said. “Coach Nixon does a tremendous job and I’m proud of that unit.”

After the bye week this Friday, Centennial will travel on September 28th to Alpharetta for a crucial matchup against another team that is undefeated in Region 7-AAAAAA. The kickoff is set for 7:30 so if you are looking to purchase tickets for the game, please visit our website to purchase tickets. The Knights team is confident and playing great so we hope to see everyone there to support our football team! Go Knights!
