Coed Junior Varsity Track, Coed Varsity Track · TRACK Wins Region Title

The Boys Track team captured back-to-back Region Championships as they held off a very talented field to successfully defend their AAAAAA Region 6 title this week. The Girls team put forth a concentrated team effort in a tightly contested meet to finish 4th (less than 1 point out of 3rd and just 19 away from 1st place!).

The Boys were led by Aaron Turk who was recognized with the “Top Male Performance of the Meet” award. Turk was 1st in the Triple Jump (setting a new school record mark at 44-02.5), was 1st in the 100m, anchored the 4×100 Relay team to a 1st place finish, was 4th in the 200m, and ran on the 6th place 4×400 Relay team that help secured the region title. With the exception of the 4×400 Relay, Turk qualified for Sectionals in all of these events.

The Boys will be well represented at Sectionals as the following athletes also qualified for the State preliminary meet on May 2nd: Region High Jump Champion Adam Saeed (6-02);  4×100 Relay Team of Greg Cook, Torre Hutchins, Jordan Gillespie, and Aaron Turk; Region Runner-Up in Shot Put Jimmie Walton; Region Runner-Up in Triple Jump Greg Cook; Region Runner-Up in 110m Hurdles Paris Williams; Ian George in the 800m; and Garrison Ramey in the 300m Hurdles.

The Girls put together a brilliant team effort with 13 different athletes scoring points! The Girls were led by the duo of Olivia Malone and Abigail Chanase, who went #1 / #2 in the Triple Jump with Malone besting her own school record with a leap of 37-07! Chanase went on to become Region Runner-Up in the 100m Hurdles (16.28) while Malone qualified for Sectionals with a 3rd place finish in the 300m Hurdles. The duo will be joined at Sectionals by Sam Horwitz (3rd in Pole Vault); the 4×100 Relay team of Tyliyah Roberson, Jannah Moede, Peyton Pritchett, and Kathleen Ansley (3rd); Ansley again in the 400m; and Audrey Holloway in the Shot Put.

The Knights put together a concentrated team effort as they contested finals in every event with the exception of the boys 400m and the girls 3200m. While the distinction is not recognized by the Region, the hard work and dedication of this TEAM is evident as our athletes put forth the #1 Combined Team Score with 167 points! Next up is the Sectional Meet on Saturday, May 2nd at McEachern High School with the Top 8 in each event advancing to State!
