The was a bear sighting at big creek park during practice last week.

Most black bears in our area are juvenile males and pose limited threat to people, as opposed to mothers with cubs.  However, there are some precautions that should be taken.

1.  Run in groups- safety is almost assured in numbers with bears.

2.  Make noise as you run- even just talking to one another is enough to alert a bear to your presence.

3.  If u do see a bear, stop moving towards it and back away slowly.

Black bears are more afraid of people than we are of them, so given the chance they will avoid humans at all cost.

An alternative to the woods would be to stay on the greenway or do the old wal mart loop, which stays on public streets.
